About us

We are a Portuguese female ensemble based in Berlin. We provoke and defy worn-out mundane concepts.

Our main focus is you, the audience, and we want to be your vehicle of expression, through a multidisciplinary and intimate experience that appeals to all the senses. Through the synergy of voice, piano and scenography, we highlight the human aspects of the art created: the space between the dichotomies of life.

The current ongoing projects are “Alma, Vida e Coração” and “Kurt Weill im Licht”.

Pianist

Maria João Maia

Maria João studied music theory, choral conducting and piano for chamber music in Lisbon, Kecskemét and Leipzig. People say she has a very strong sense of smell. She found out that sunny places equals good food- that's how she survives german winter, by not being there so much. Currently playing in different projects and teaching at her own rather small music school. Also, she plays the bagpipes.

Soprano

Margarida Pinheiro

Margarida completed her Classical Singing studies at Lisbon’s Music University.  Coming from a fishermen’s town, but regularly commuting between her hometown and the Portuguese capital, Margarida always felt she belongs everywhere but anywhere.

Seeking an answer to it, she moves to Germany where she met her second love(s): Old Jazz Dances and Music. Since then, Margarida explores her world of “no roots” and “no label” and tries to find new ways of combining different performative art forms and music genres she likes.

Also, she’s not that funny but laughs awkwardly loud to all sorts of jokes (specially the socially unacceptable ones).
